Microsoft confirms issues in Windows 11 KB5026372 May 2023 update

After the release of the Creators Update in 2018, Windows 10, which was previously very reliable, began experiencing an uptick in issues. Windows 11, its successor, has not been free of these problems. Recently, Windows 11 has been plagued by numerous bugs, much to the dismay of its users. Build 5026372 for Windows 11 (Extensive revision as of May 2023) has been causing a slew of minor but serious problems, which may persuade some businesses to delay the upgrade for more than a month while the technology behemoth works on a fix. The May 2023 KB5026372 update for Windows 11 has some known issues, but the good news is that Microsoft is aware of them. A Microsoft insider has confirmed the company is investigating the VPN problems that have plagued many users since the May 11th, 2023 release of Windows 11. The "fix could arrive in the coming weeks," according to another source, which means it will most likely be implemented by the end of the month and rolled out to a wider audience in June's Patch Tuesday update. Those issues reported problems with VPN connections and slow speeds are the most common complaints by far. Users reported significant slowdowns in VPN connection speeds after installing the update, according to Windows Latest. Connection times went up from a couple of seconds to 20-30 seconds, and speeds dropped from 16 MB/s to zero in some cases. After trying to fix the problem by reinstalling WAN, flushing DNS, turning off IPv6, and turning off firewalls, it appears that uninstalling the update is the only viable option. Businesses have been hit especially hard by KB5026372, with reports of hundreds of users losing L2TP/IPsec connectivity as a result of the update. Users have reported problems with Windows Security apps and widgets in addition to VPNs, including crashes that result in a blue screen of death.
