Windows 11’s Android subsystem gets March 2023 update with improvements
Windows Subsystem for Android is the technology that allows Windows 11 to run Android apps natively. Many advancements have been made to the underlying technology since the WSA was first introduced with Windows 11 in 2021. The most recent update concentrated on bug fixes and quality enhancements, such as the ability to zoom out with a touchpad or mouse.
This week, Microsoft announced in the Windows Insider Program channels that a new version of the Windows Subsystem for Android had been released. There are no major additions or changes with this update, but Microsoft has addressed a number of bugs, including one that negatively impacted audio performance and other functions.
As released on the Github website by Microsoft. We noticed today that WSA had been updated to version 2302.4000 on the Dev and Beta channels; the official release notes confirmed this, saying that it includes stability improvements for graphics card selection.
Even though it's not clear how the graphic card selection was enhanced, making this choice no longer causes the WSA settings container to stutter. Microsoft is updating the WSA Settings with this patch and introducing new performance controls for GPUs. Options, however, are device-specific.
The docking and undocking of external displays is also improved. For some users, this caused performance issues. Improvements to the audio buffer and security updates for Android 13 round out the list of fixes.
There aren't any major new features, and the changes that have been made so far have been relatively minor. Because of these enhancements, Android apps should run more smoothly on PCs running Windows 11.
After subscribing to the Beta or Dev channel, the March 2023 update can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Store.
