The KB5022913 update for Windows 11 is currently in the production channel, but it won't download or install mechanically. You can wait until the March 14 Patch Tuesday update, which doesn't require the update, to get the new features. Don't forget that the patch is titled "2023-02 Cumulative Update Preview for" if you have any doubts. Specifically, Windows 11 build 22H2 Systems (KB5022913)" for x64-based Machines.

Microsoft is reintroducing the "tablet-optimized taskbar" in the Moment 2 update, as was mentioned up front. You may already be aware that, as of February 2022, Microsoft had been hard at work on a taskbar that was better suited for tablets.

The Windows 11 22H2 update was supposed to introduce the tablet-optimized taskbar. Users complained that it severely restricted their ability to access the system tray, so it was retracted and revised.

Microsoft has revised the taskbar for use on tablets, and the updated version (production build) of Moment 2 includes the changes.

Microsoft has made another attempt in Moment 2 to improve the tablet taskbar while also making it more suitable for desktop users. To clarify, Windows 11 does not include a dedicated tablet interface; rather, the company has relied on optimization to make features similar to the Windows 10 taskbar suitable for use on tablets.

On tablets, this new toolbar can be used in either a collapsed or expanded form.

Collapsed mode, as its name suggests, hides the taskbar and provides more space for the user, making it ideal for those working on small Windows tablets.

When the taskbar is in its collapsed state, only the most essential icons, such as the battery indicator and the time, are displayed, and it shrinks to make room for the desktop and any open programs.

In contrast, when in expanded mode, a proper taskbar appears, complete with touch-friendly buttons and icons. It does, however, include the usual suspects—Start, Widgets bar, and application icons—that one would find on a taskbar.

Tablets make it simple to toggle between the two modes. Swiping up from the bottom of the screen toggles between the two modes.

This function is available for use right now, but it must be triggered automatically. When the operating system recognizes a 2-in-1 device, or when the keyboard is detached or folded back, the tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled automatically.

If you don't like this feature, you can disable it in the Settings menu of your tablet. In the Settings menu, you'll find a new toggle titled "Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet." This feature, which is enabled by default on 2-in-1s and tablets, can be disabled for a more conventional experience.

In the coming weeks, the public should start receiving preview builds with the optimized taskbar, which is still being developed by the tech giant.
